EX - Kyrgyzstan on EME
By now hopefully you have heard of this fantastic opportunity to work a very rare DXCC! Especially for hams in North America, this is a special opportunity because you will not need any elevation - you can contact them while your antenna is pointed at the horizon. If you are in the eastern half NA, you will want to contact them during their moonset (your moonrise). If you are in western NA, you will be contacting them during their moonrise (your moonset). The week that they are there also includes the best days of the month for optimum EME conditions.

So how big a station is needed to contact them? Anybody JT65A mode station with a kw and a good 7 element yagi and clear terrain in front of the antenna (for optimum ground gain) should be able to complete. When you consider the fact that I completed with a single 6M5X yagi while I was at E51SIX - while I was elevated with no ground gain - it would not surprise me at all if they worked even smaller stations (since there will be ground gain at both ends of the path).
There now is a dedicated website that will be updated with additional information:
http://6meme.ex7mw.com/
Please watch the above site and the NEWS section of Make More Miles on VHF for
updates:
http://www.mmmonvhf.de/latest.php
Still have questions about how to get set up on JT65A?
http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/JT65.txt
Have questions on when you and the EX team will both be able to see the moon:
http://bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/GJTRACKER.zip
Because of their very favorable location beaming out over the lake during moonrise and moonset, they should develop excellent ground gain from their very quiet location. This, combined with their excellent 6m station and their operation at the optimum time of month for EME, should provide very impressive results! I suspect this will raise the bar for future 6m EME DXpeditions! I hope everyone who is interested in contacting EX on 6m is successful in taking advantage of this great opportunity.
