E6 - Niue - 30.08.12

Hello! Well, I wanted to provide as much advance time as I could so you could mark your calendars and/or get everything in your 6m station optimized by the end of August ;-) As those of you know who completed JT65A mode contacts with me on 6m EME when I was in E51, 3D2 and 5W, I will do my best to set up and be active during our common moon windows - especially during the optimum days of the month for 6m EME. The callsign is not in hand yet (but assured by email), and the QTH has not been finalized, but all the plane tickets have been purchased (as usual, any contributions are VERY welcome), and the equipment (a KX3 portable transceiver with compatible 6m amplifier) is in the works. As soon as the license is in hand, the information will also be available under the callsign on QRZ.com.
In the meantime, preliminary information about the DXpedition is here:
http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/Niue2012.htmI don't know if it will be possible to find a QTH that provides my usual preference for a takeoff shot over water on moonrise. However, that is not necessary to work NA stations during their moonsets (I will be elevating), so we will get the ground gain on YOUR end for that ;-) And if a QTH with a good moonrise shot (for EU moonset) cannot be found, it is quite likely that we will instead wind up with a good moonset over the water for the EU moonrise. Currently, ZL1RS is planning to activate ZK2 on 2m EME during the same time period, as we did together from E51 and 3D2; Bob's call will probably be his old callsign of ZK2RS. More details will be posted on the above website as the departure time at the end of August gets closer.
I am very much looking forward to giving you a new one on the Magic Band! GL and DX! VY 73, Lance.

KH8S - Swains Isl.  - 30.08.12

Swains press release # 3 Aug. 22 2012 (edited).
The leaders are happy to report that the DXpedition cargo has arrived in American Samoa. The international team of 20 operators are excited about this tent and generator operation. The island ranks number 31 in the DX Magazine most wanted list. Swains is about one mile in circumference has only five permanent residents and no infrastructure.
The team will be running seven stations from 6 to 160 including 60m.
They will be on CW, SSB and RTTY around the clock for 14 days. Great emphasis will be in working European stations. Plans are to update logs on a daily basis by satellite phone. Because there is no regular internet service, the team will have two pilot stations. Valerie, NV9L, will be the North American pilot while Col, MM0NDX, will do the honors for Europe. They and John/K6MM, the webmaster, will be the only contact to the team for their 14 day stay.
Due to changes in airline flights, they are now scheduled to depart American Samoa on Sept. 4th, for the 23 hour boat ride to Swains.
Everything will then be off loaded and taken ashore by a small boat.
Along with the radio equipment, antennas, food, and tents, are 19 drums of gasoline for the seven generators.
The team of highly experienced DXers, contesters and Dxpeditioners are 9V1FJ, AA4NN, DJ2VO, DL3DXX, K5AB, K9CS, K9CT, K9NW, N2TU, N4HH, N6HC, N6HD, NA6M, ND2T, SM5AQD, W6KK, W8GEX, W8HC, W8TN and WB9Z. There have been several requests to listen into the general band, so please listen to the operator's instructions.
We are most grateful to NCDXF, INDEXA, and all clubs and individuals who have supported us. Like all major DXpeditions today, this is a very expensive trip. Total costs are estimated to be 200,000 USDs.  Each member has paid 8000 USDs, plus his cost to get to American Samoa.
Anyone who wants to help, can go to our website, http://www.nh8s.org and click on the donations link. We are most appreciative to any and all DXers that contribute to help defray the cost of the trip.
OQSL is available on the website for your convenience. QSL manager for cards is Joe Blackwell, AA4NN, and requests should be sent to him at:
Swains Island DXpedition, P.O. Box 5005, Lake Wylie, SC 29710, USA
LoTW will be posted six months following the DXpedition.
We would like to give special thanks to our support crew who has worked very hard for us. They include DL9RCF, I8NHJ, K6MM, MM0NDX, N1DG, N4XP, N7CQQ, NV9L, W6XA, W8AEF, W8CAA and Margarett Blackwell XYL of AA4NN.
The website http://www.nh8s.org provides more details.
Craig, K9CT. Joe, W8GEX. Co-Leaders"

SV - Geace - 31.08.12

Look for Dirk, ON5CT, to be active from the island of Corfu (EU-052, GIOTA INS-042, MIA MG-055, WLOTA 4132, Grid Loc. JM99) between 4-18th September 2012. He will be QRV on 20/17/15/12/10/6 metre SSB and RTTY (preferred). QSL via e-QSL or LoTW - *NO paper**QSL*.

ZA - Albania - 02.09.12

Operators Franta/OK1HH and Bob/OK2BOB will be active as ZA/homecall between September 12-20th. Activity will be on 160-6 meters using CW and SSB. QSL via their home callsigns.

ZD9 - Tristan Da Cunha - 31.08.12

G3ZAY and M0VFC have secured places on the “Baltic Trader” travelling to Tristan da Cunha on 20th September from Cape Town. They expect to have about 7 days on the island from 27th September though this could be curtailed by bad weather. They do not expect to have time to cover all bands, and probably will not operate on 1.8 or 50MHz. Both will operate as ZD9UW.
Logs will be uploaded to ClubLog and LoTW shortly after the operation (or during, if an Internet connection is available), and cards will be handled by OQRS, direct to M0VFC, or via email bureau requests.

ANTARTICA - 31.08.12

VK0JJJ - Mawson Station - Mac Robertson Land, Antarctica Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition 2013/14

Whilst there I hope to be QRO on bands 160m to 6m with a lot of priority given to 6m operation. I plan on installing a 6m propagation beacon to monitor openings kindly donated by David N3DB Secretary / Treasurer of The 6 Meter Beacon Project inc. (http://www.6meterbeaconproject.org/).
Modes will be SSB phone and digital modes. At this stage equipment is still in the planning stages; Main rig will probably be a Flex 5000A 160m - 10m (Either 400 watts or 1000 watts depending on license conditions)
