TZ5T - Mali - 09.03.12

We regret having to give bad news about the planned Dxpedition. The situation of civil war in Mali between the government and Tuareg is getting worse lately and, for safety reasons, the authorities do not issue licenses to radio amateurs who may be targeted because of radio equipment. For this reason the Dxpedition is postponed until a later date.

/MM - Maritime Mobile - 12.03.12

Yuri, UT1FG, who has been active as UT1FG/MM and sailing from port to port operating on the satellites and 6 meters
to activate wet Grid Squares, has left from a port in Nicaragua a few days ago. However, Yuri's 12 volt power supply that runs his IC-706 has failed and could not be fixed. John, K8YSE, informs OPDX, "This prompted an effort to find a way to replace that power supply and insure continued operations as he sails up to Montreal, Canada. The solution was eventually found and thanks to the efforts of Captain Manolis Joannou, HP1CQ, Yuri continues to operate. An abbreviated version of the story of 'International Good Will' and extreme determination to succeed is now posted on my Web site. This hobby is more than just operating and making contacts." For the rest of the story, please visit John's Web page at:  http://www.papays.com/sat  (look at UT1FG/MM Panama link)
