KH3 - Johnston Is - 11.07.11
OPDX has been informed by Susan, W7KFI, that she has finally received permission from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) on November 1st, to land on Johnston Atoll between November or December of this year. However, Susan tells OPDX that she would like to sail there now during "the month of January (late)/early February for arrival, and with an extension to 10 days." For those who do not know about Susan -- she is a 76 year old grandmother (her birthday was this past Friday) who like to operate ham radio and is the Skipper of her own sailboat called "USSV DHARMA". Check out her Web page at: http://w7kfi.com Susan told OPDX that she will be sailing alone on this trip. Activity will be on 40-6 meters and operating CW and SSB, and also RTTY/PACTOR/PSK31 possibly on request. She mentions to us to look for her on 36 kHz above the lower edge of general bands (Suggested frequencies mentioned 14036, 14236, 18090, 18146, 21036, 21286, 28036 and 28450 kHz). Susan also states that she will "only answer full callsigns....no one else. Period."
Her radios are an FT847, IC718 and a K3. She states, "Remember, I am spending a large portion of my social security to do this trip." QSL via KH6CG, direct or by the Bureau.
