5W - Samoa - 07.21.11
W7GJ, wrote :"Now that the summer Es season is winding down, it is time to remind you again that it is time for some half million mile 6m DXing to begin again! In case any of you serious 6m operators with digital mode capability still need Samoa (5W), this is a reminder that I am going there in only FOUR WEEKS! All you need is some decent ground gain for your 6m yagi, an amplifier and JT65A mode. For North and South American stations, I will be elevating on MY end, so you can just keep your antenna aimed at the horizon during your moonset during the last days of August. With ground gain and optimum EME cndx, amazing things are possible - I worked N3CXV with his single 6M5X yagi on both my previous DXpeditions to 3D2 and E51. For European stations, our best chance is during the week of August 22 during my moonrise. Although cndx are not as good then as on the last weekend of August, it is also your moonset, so we have a good chance of ground gain on both ends, which should make up for the difference in Degradation.
If you are one of the numerous 6m stations who have recently added elevation, please try to catch up with me during my moonrise out over the water. I expect that to be my best direction. I was surprised to find W7CE with his single 6M9KHW pointed up in the air was one of the first stations I worked during my first moonrise from 3D2 last fall! Full information is on my website below and also will be updated there and on the MMM on VHF DXpedition website:
http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/Samoa2011.htm - Please read the information on my website about my schedule and also familiarize yourself with the procedure I use for my 6m EME DXpeditions: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/DXpedition%20Procedure.pdf
I am excited about handing out a new DXCC to many deserving 6m operators who take the time to get on and look for me on JT65A mode. Please spread out and only work me once, to allow others an opportunity for a contact during these limited days! I hope to be able to update a list of stations worked from time to time as I can find a place with internet access. I hope you also will be able to add a 5W0GJ QSL card on your wall ;-) GL and VY 73, Lance, W7GJ.

To reach these locations I will be QRV while mobile In DM09, DN00, DN10, DN11, DN20, DN21, DN30, DN40, DN41, DN51, DN52, DN53, DN54, DN44, DN43, DN33, DN23, DN13, DN14, DN04, DN03, CN93, CN83, CN82, CN81, CN71, CN72, CN71, CN70, CN80, CM89, CM88, CM87, CM86, CM87, CM97, CM98, CM99, & finally home in DM09.
(KQ 6M Loop & 100W)
On the 1st trip, I was able to operate FSK441A "While Mobile In Motion" with great success. The long lonely straight stretches of highway are a natural for this manner of making QSO's. When I find myself traversing this same kind of terrain Ill operate 441A Mobile, CQing 50.250 1st. The rest of the time I'll CQ.125 on CW/SSB, QSYing to .145 when conditions warrant.
Before you ask... Only the grids listed, as listed. No other bands. This is about supporting peoples efforts to earn the FFMA award on 50 Mhz. Finding operating sites & plotting the route using Google Earth took a total of 16+ Hours over several days in a effort to ensure a successful venture.
We all owe a great deal of Thanks to Patrick - WX7M for providing the truck, all the radio gear, and his precious time and energy to make the 6M KW Rover a reality.
For pics of the truck and details of its construction please Visit:

"Now that everything is 'official', I can announce my entry in the CX (Classic Exchange) Phone Contest 2011 Broadcasting Live and Direct from the BIG Caboose at the beloved AC&J Railroad (Jefferson Ohio EN91or Ashtabula County)...
The CX is a no-pressure contest celebrating the older commercial and homebrew equipment that was the pride and joy of ham shacks many decades ago. The object is to encourage restoration, operation and enjoyment of this older "Classic" equipment. (This is MY kind of Contest)... :)
Date: The AM - SSB - FM CX will run from 1400 UTC September 18 to 0800 UTC September 19, 2011. (9 AM Eastern Time on Sunday to 3 AM Eastern Time Monday) Call: "CQ Classic Exchange"
What: Exchange your name, RST, QTH (state US, province for Canada, country for DX), receiver and transmitter manufacturer/model (homebrew send final amp tube or transistor type) and other interesting conversation. Note: The same station may be worked with different equipment combinations on each band and in each mode.
Freq's: I will start and CQ on 52.525FM, then move to 52.500AM (unless your boat anchor won't go that high, or is rockbound; then we'll work something out), then switch to 52.500USB; then back to 52.525FM to finish the QSO... If you have another rig that will do 6 Meters, then repeat the process all over again...
Equiptment: A 17 year old Kenwood TS-60 to 29.4ft of LMR-400 to the "DOMINATOR" 5/8 wave Vertical at 29.5ft off the ground supported by the Caboose roofwalk and a 8' Shakespeare heavy duty mast...
