1A -  S.M.O.M. - 29.06.12

(Press Release - Thoughts about the magic band. Last press release before the kick off). Posted on June 28th, by the 1A0C team [edited]: "Roma is not precisely a remote place with scarce ham population! So we don't see the need of a beacon. Even more, we don't want to upset the local ham community with another broadcasting signal in the band, there is a nice beacon already (I0JX) and it will be more than enough.
We will, of course, keep watching the early warning sites such as the
6m ON4KST prop pages and DXCluster.

As it was intended from the beginning this operation is primarily focused on working North America and Asia. Our plan for 6m is to steer the beam to JA in the morning. All eastern EU will be covered in 1 hop as well. And turn the beam to NA past midday, giving a chance for the eagers in West EU. Last operations by 1A0KM has provided Sovereign Military Order of Malta to most of the EU 6m population, however there are very few dxpeditions planned for this season, therefore pileups from the old
Europe can be large as people are idle looking for any prey to hunt.
The 6m propagation, specially on Es skip, is unpredictable, but our experience of the last 20 years points that during the last week of June/1st of July conditions are best for Xatlantic contacts and long
haul openings to the N. East. We need to be very observant for any possible multihop event, managing meanwhile the EU pileup smartly whilst looking for possible links across the Pond or Siberia. This is not easy, but we have done it successfully and recently from Algeria, Egypt, Morroco,
Palestine, Andorra, etc.

At the end, we are in Europe, hence, when working EU the so called "DX-windows" must be avoided, that is 50.100-50.130. We are thinking to stay fixed on one frq for all CW operation below it, between 50084-95, in order to not to disturb upwards the band to leak the pileup into the DX windows and choose a phone frq up in the band, away from the DX zone, e.g. 50180. We really hope the local operators, and even the European 6m fans, will appreciate this decision of the team.

50 MHz information and operating tips
 • The 6 meter band will be included in this operation. We'll focus for    long haul openings, as most of the Europe regions have been widely covered in the recent years.
 • We plan to use the following frequencies: 50.084 for CW and 50.180 for SSB. Although they may be changed, depending on local noise/birdies. Split operation will be deployed when needed.
 • The main mode will be CW. If band conditions permit, SSB will be used to gain a higher QSO rate. Please do not ask for mode changing.

• Please avoid QSO duplication, give others a chance. Logs will be uploaded twice a day to our website. If it will work, we will provide the live log online (new are not sure 100% now).
 • We don't find necessary to set a beacon station this time.
 • Our Grid Locator is JN61FV. Please, DO NOT send your locator, it is not needed and we won't log it anyway, it wastes precious time."

D6 - Comores iS. - 28.06.12

Hi all, It’s just 6 weeks before the expedition and I promised to keep you informed.
These are our last news: We will arrive to Comoros on August 8^th and we will be qrv on 6 meters from the following day, August 9^th until the 20^th .
We will run a dedicated station with K3 + pr6 preamp, ACOM1000, and a 6m8gj antenna.
QRV cw, ssb, digi modes (jt65a, iscat and jt6m) and EME . We will run a breakable beacon on cw or jt65a. We hope to have internet access and will be on on4kst chats.
QTH will be LH18PJ just at sea side. By now we have got the license for HF and 6 meters and flight tickets are already booked.
Schedule is as follows:
8/8 arrive to qth
9/8 install 6m station
First windows:
9/8 MR at 21.10Z
9/8 MS at 09.00Z
Last windows:
19/8 MS at 16:40Z
20/8 MR at 05:05Z
20/8 pack 6m station and return home
MR will be looking to mountains in the island about 200 meters high at 2 Km, will see how it works.
MS will be looking to the sea, expecting good ground gain and low noise.
We don’t have any particular frequency, usually I will TX first on 193.
We will have elevation when moon is higher than 20 degrees. We expect to run about three hours before/after MS/MR, and use the rest of diurnal time for terrestrial modes. Of course, if F2/TEP opens it will have priority, sorry, I think you will understand us.
Hope to work all you from D64K
73 Josep, EA3AKY.

SM/O/LA/OZ - North Eu trip - 30.06.12

Hi dear Friends,
*Paolo I2AE* leaves today on the afternoon with XYL, driving their Camper for a long journey to Northern Europa: Nordkapp and back , for more than 11,000 Km in one month.
He will be of course on the air on Holiday Style; he plans some *WFF, IOTA, WCA, and Lighthouses activations*, not yet precisely determined by now; he will just be on the air from the places he will find on his way and if the weather etc. will allow it.

Anyway by now his plan indications are  :

- Sweden: some *WFF* and *IOTA* References, probably IOTA EU138 , or IOTA EU037 with Lighthouse SWE 041 Ølands Södra Udde/Lange Jan
- Finland: planned OHFF024  Pyhä-Luosto National Park
- Norway: IOTA EU076 Lofoten Islands and then IOTA EU044 Mageroya Island, from Nordkapp. Maybe Lighthouses, too, that he will  find on his way to Nordkapp.
- Denmark: He planned some OZFF activation with the Friend Jacob OZ7AEI.

Frequencies: He will be active on the usual frequencies of 14,244+/- and 7,144+/-, SSB phone only; it will also be possible on*50 MHz band.

Many greetings to you all from Paolo I2AE , he hopes to meet you on the air soon.
Paolo may send me some SMS ( He will not have a PC with him ) as soon he finds some useful location, and I'll pass the data on to the ham community, by bulletins or cluster.
Greetings also from the writer of this note. Have fun !
73 es 44 de Augusto hb9tza - HBFF and DCS-SSD Team
